The Nigerian National Identity Management Commission and MasterCard have announced at the World Economic Forum on Africa the roll-out of 13 million MasterCard-branded National Identity Smart Cards with electronic payment capability as a pilot program. The National Identity Smart Card is the Card Scheme under the recently deployed National Identity Management System. This program is the largest roll-out of a formal electronic payment solution in the country and the broadest financial inclusion initiative of its kind on the African continent. First Data Corporation and MPayMe, a Hong Kong-based mobile solutions specialist, have formed a strategic alliance to offer mobile payment solutions in key markets in Asia Pacific. MPayMe and First Data will work exclusively together in Asia Pacific, and First Data will be the sole distributor and reseller of ZNAP across the region. Ukash has signed an agreement to enable global money transfer company MoneyGram’s customers to send domestic and international money transfers from the Ukash website and receive it at any of MoneyGram’s more than 310,000 locations worldwide or through MoneyGram’s account deposit channels.
